Team Check In and Inspection
Every team goes through two steps before it can compete. Check in records that the team has arrived, and inspection records that its robot or drone meets the rules. Both happen on the Check In and Inspection pages, listed under Teams in the sidebar.
Check in is usually run from the registration table by a volunteer with the Check-In role. Inspection is run at one or more inspection stations, often on laptops, by volunteers with the Check-In, Scorekeeper, Head Referee, or Admin role. See Roles and Permissions.
Ready Statuses
Each team has one ready status for the event. It appears as a colored chip next to the team on the Team List, in the solo match team picker, and on the Check-In and Inspection printout.
- Not Present: The team has not arrived. This is the starting status. Teams with this status are left out when you assign teams to matches, are hidden from the Alliance Selection page, and are not listed on the rankings display screens.
- Present: The team has checked in but has not started inspection. It can be placed into matches.
- Inspection Started: An inspector has begun the checklist.
- Inspection Failing: At least one checklist item failed. The team needs to fix something and come back.
- Inspection Passed: The team is cleared to compete. Only teams with this status appear in the solo match team picker unless Show all teams is turned on.
The Inspection display screen collapses these into Not Started (for Not Present and Present), Partial (for Inspection Started and Inspection Failing), and Passed so teams in the pits can see where they stand.

The Alliance Rankings and Solo Rankings display screens list only teams that have checked in. At a league, a team that checked in at any session stays listed at later sessions. See Rankings.
Checking In a Team

- Open Check In under Teams.
- Type the team number, name, organization, or coach name into the search box. The list shows only teams that are still Not Present. Turn on Show all teams to find a team that has already checked in.
- Select the team. Its organization, number, name, and status appear at the top, followed by Contact Information, so you can confirm the coach's details while the team is at the table.
- Click Check In. The status changes to Present, the search box clears, and the cursor returns to it for the next team.
To undo a check in, select the team and click Mark Not Present. The button shows Check In for teams that are Not Present and Mark Not Present for every other status. To correct a team's name, organization, grade, or coach details, click Edit.
The Not Present panel on the right lists every team that has not checked in, with a count in the heading. Mark All Teams Present at the bottom sets all of them to Present in one action after you confirm the count. The Recent panel lists the ten teams whose status changed most recently.
Note
Only teams that are Present or further along are placed into the qualification schedule. If you mark everyone present to save time, remember to mark any team that never arrives back to Not Present before you assign teams to matches.
Inspecting a Team

- Open Inspection under Teams.
- Search for the team. The list hides teams that have already reached Inspection Passed. Turn on Show all teams to reopen a passed team.
- Select the team. The Checklist card opens with the first section expanded.
- Answer each item with Pass, Fail, or N/A. Yes or no questions offer Yes and No instead. Clicking the same choice again clears it. When you mark an item Fail, a note box appears with the prompt Why did this fail? so you can tell the team what to fix.
- Fill in the Inspector section. Inspector Name suggests names already used at this event. Student Initials accepts up to 6 characters and converts them to capitals.
- Add any general Notes. They appear next to the team's status chip on the Team List.
- Confirm the Status. Competition Control suggests one as you work, but you can choose any of Present, Inspection Started, Inspection Failing, or Inspection Passed.
- Click Save Inspection. The button briefly reads Saved, then the page returns to the search box.
Checklist answers save on their own as you click them, so a partly finished inspection is kept if the team walks away. Failure notes save when you leave the note box or after two seconds without typing. The inspector, notes, and status are recorded only when you click Save Inspection.
The suggested status follows the checklist: any Fail suggests Inspection Failing, every item at Pass or N/A suggests Inspection Passed, and anything in between suggests Inspection Started. If you choose Inspection Passed while an item is still marked Fail, a warning titled Checklist has a failed item appears. You can still save.
Checklists by Program
Every program has a checklist. The robotics programs (ACH, ENG, and INS) use sections of inspector verified rules such as Base Rules, Electronic Components, and Pneumatic Components, ending with Questions for Team Members. The Aerial Drone Competition (ADC) uses a single Flight Clearance section of yes or no questions the team answers. The Aerial Drone Competition Pro (PRO) has Teamwork Drone Requirements, Robot Requirements, Solo Match Drone Requirements, and Questions for Team Members. A team that brings more than one vehicle is checked against the same list and passes as a whole.
Keyboard Shortcuts
The Inspection page is designed to be worked from a keyboard.
Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Focus the team selector |
| Set the status to Inspection Passed |
| Focus Save Inspection |
| Mark the focused item Pass (or answer Yes) |
| Mark the focused item Fail (or answer No) |
| Mark the focused item N/A (or answer No) |
| Move to the next or previous item |
Answering an item moves focus to the next one. Arrow keys carry past the end of the checklist through Inspector Name, Status, and on to Save Inspection.
