Violations
A violation is a record that a team broke a rule, or did not show up, in a specific match. Head referees record violations from the scoring dialog while a match is being scored. The Violations page, listed under Competition in the sidebar, is the event-wide log where you review, filter, edit, and delete them.
The Solo-Only Scorekeeper, Scorekeeper, Head Referee, Judge Advisor, and Admin roles can view the page. Only Head Referee, Judge Advisor, and Admin can record, edit, or delete violations. Scorekeepers see the log but have no edit button and no violation buttons in the scoring dialog. See Roles and Permissions.
Violation Levels
Level | What it means | Effect on results |
|---|---|---|
Note | A written observation with no penalty, such as a warning given at the field. | None. |
Yellow Card | A rule violation that does not change the match result. | None. Kept for the record. |
Red Card | A disqualifying violation. | The team receives no credit for the match. In an alliance match the opposing alliance is credited with a win for ranking purposes. Three or more count against alliance selection eligibility. |
No Show | The team did not appear for the match. | The team receives no credit for the match. The opponents' result is not changed. |
Only the most severe violation for a team in a match counts. Recording a Yellow Card and a Red Card for the same team in the same match has the same effect as the Red Card alone. The order from least to most severe is Note, Yellow Card, Red Card, No Show.
Recording a Violation

Violations are added from the scoring dialog on the Matches page or the Solo Matches page.
- Open the match in the scoring dialog.
- Choose the Violations tab, or press
Alt+V. - Click the [team] Violation button for the team involved. The Add Violation for [team] dialog opens.
- Choose the Violation Level. The default is Note.
- Type the details in Notes. Describe the rule and what happened, written as if the team's coach will read it. This is the log you will refer to if a result is questioned.
- Click Save. The violation appears immediately in the tab and on the Violations page.
To record a no-show, use the Field Control tab instead. Any team not ticked present on the Queueing page is listed under No Show Teams. Click Mark [team] No-Show to open the same dialog with Violation Level already set to No Show. The button is disabled once a No Show violation exists for that team in that match.
If you see Failed to save violation, the device has lost its connection to the host computer. Reconnect and try again.
Reviewing and Editing Violations
[Screenshot: Violations page with the team filter and level filter above the table]
- Open Violations under Competition.
- Use the team search box to show one team's violations, and the level list (which defaults to All) to show one level.
- Read the table. Each row shows the Level chip, Team, Match, Notes, Author (the device that recorded it), and Created time. Violations recorded without a match show N/A in the Match column.
- Click the edit button on a row to open Edit Violation for [team].
- Change the Violation Level or Notes and click Save, or click Delete and confirm Are you sure you want to delete this violation?
Changes take effect immediately, and rankings recalculate as soon as a violation is saved or deleted.
How Violations Affect Results
A Red Card or No Show violation means the team gets no credit for that match, but only once the match score has been finalized. If a team's ranking did not change after you recorded a Red Card, check that the violation is against the right match and that the score has been saved.
- In average score rankings the match counts as zero, and can be the team's dropped score like any other low score.
- In rank point rankings the team earns no win, autonomous, or endgame points for the match, and the match is recorded as a loss in its W-L-T record.
- A Red Card in an alliance match gives the opposing alliance a win for ranking points, even if they scored fewer points. Their W-L-T record still reflects the actual score. A No Show does not change the opponents' result.
- In elimination matches, a Red Card on any team counts as a loss for the whole alliance.
- In solo rankings the attempt is ignored entirely, but it still counts toward the team's attempt limit. See Solo Matches.
- A team with 3 or more Red Card violations is not eligible for alliance selection by default. The Alliance Selection page shows the count and lets you override it. Deleting a violation removes it from the count. See Alliance Selection.
See Rankings for how each ranking method is calculated.
