Excellence Eligibility
The Eligibility page, under Judging in the sidebar, is a live view of which teams currently meet the performance requirements for the Excellence Award. For Aerial Drone Competition and Aerial Drone Competition Pro events it covers the All-Around Champion Award instead, and the page is titled All-Around Champion Eligibility. It reads the same rankings the Rankings page uses, so it changes as scores are saved through the day and is current when the judges sit down to deliberate.
The page is also a deliberation tool. Judges can mark each team with a colored highlight and record the status of its engineering notebook. Both marks are saved on the host computer and appear on every Admin and Judge Advisor device at the event within a moment, so the host computer and the tablets in the judging room all see the same board.

Before You Start
- Use an Admin or Judge Advisor device. Those are the only roles that can load the eligibility results and set highlights. The Judge role can open the page and set notebook status, but it lacks the permission the results depend on, so the table stays empty on a Judge device. See Roles and Permissions.
- Teams appear only after they are checked in and assigned to at least one alliance match. A team that has not arrived, or that is not in the match list, is left off the page rather than shown as not eligible. See Team Check In and Inspection and Creating Matches.
- Cutoffs are calculated from teams with a scored qualification match, so the Cutoffs card reads No teams have scored matches yet. until the first qualification score is saved.
- Grade-level results depend on each team's Grade on the Teams page and on the awards added on the Awards step. Both are explained under How Eligibility Is Decided.
Reading the Page
The top of the page has three tiles: Teams (how many teams meet the participation requirement), Eligible, and Not eligible. Beside them, the Cutoffs card lists the rank a team must reach for each requirement, for example Qualification ≤#6 • Solo ≤#6 • Coding ≤#6, followed by the number of eligible teams. When the page is split by grade there is one line per grade; otherwise there is a single All teams line.
Below is the team table. Eligible teams have their number in teal and a teal check in the Eligible column. Eligible teams whose notebook status is Candidate are shown in green instead, so the judges' shortlist stands out. Teams that are not eligible show a red cross. The table is sorted with eligible teams first, then by qualification rank, then by team number. Click any column heading to sort by it, and click again to reverse the order. Teams without a rank show N/A and sort last.
Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
Team, Name, Grade, Organization, Location | Team details from the Teams page. A team with no grade shows N/A. |
Eligible | Whether the team meets every requirement, including the notebook status set on this page. |
Qual Rank | The team's place in the qualification rankings. When the page is split by grade, this is the team's place among teams in its grade. |
Solo Rank | The team's place in the solo rankings, again within its grade when split. |
Coding Rank | Engage, Achieve, and Inspire only. The team's place among teams that have taken a Coding attempt, ranked by highest Coding score. Tied scores share a rank. |
Driving and Coding, or Piloting and Autonomous Flight | The team's highest score of each solo match type. The column names follow your program. |
Notebook | The notebook status recorded by the judges, in short form. Red for Not submitted and Developing, teal for Fully developed, green for Candidate, and plain for Not set. |
Details button | Opens the team's requirement breakdown. |
The toolbar above the table has a Guide to Judging button that opens the RECF Guide to Judging for your program in your browser (the Robotics guide for Engage, Achieve, and Inspire, or the Drones guide for Aerial Drone Competition and Aerial Drone Competition Pro), a Search teams box that matches team number, name, or organization, an eligibility filter (All teams, Eligible only, Not eligible only), a grade filter that appears only when the page is split by grade and more than one grade is present, and a Columns menu. Untick a column in Columns to hide it. Column choices are remembered on that device; search, filters, and sort order reset when the page is reloaded. When nothing matches, the table reads No teams match the filters.
On a phone, the table becomes a list of cards grouped under Eligible and Ineligible headings, each with a details button and a Notebook strip along the bottom.
How Eligibility Is Decided
A team is eligible when it passes every requirement for your program.
Requirement | Programs | How it is checked |
|---|---|---|
Participation | All | The team is checked in (any status other than Not Present) and assigned to at least one alliance match. Teams that fail this are not listed. |
Qualification rank | All | The team has at least one scored qualification match and its Qual Rank is within the cutoff. |
Solo rank | All | The team has taken at least one solo attempt and its Solo Rank is within the cutoff. |
Positive autonomous score | All | The team's highest Coding or Autonomous Flight score is above zero. |
Autonomous rank | Engage, Achieve, Inspire | The team's Coding Rank is within the cutoff. |
Positive piloting score | Aerial Drone Competition, Aerial Drone Competition Pro | The team's highest Piloting score is above zero. |
Notebook | All | The status on this page is not Not submitted or Developing. |
Every cutoff is the top 50% of the teams in the pool that have a scored qualification match. The count is rounded up at the halfway point (2.5 admits 3 teams) and is never below 1. The same count sets the qualification, solo, and autonomous cutoffs, so all of them read the same number on the Cutoffs card.
The pool is either the whole event or one grade. The page splits by grade automatically when your program offers grade-level Excellence (every program except Inspire) and the Awards step lists two or more different awards with Excellence or All-Around in the name. When split, ranks and cutoffs are worked out separately for each grade, and teams with no grade form their own pool. To change whether the page splits, add or remove grade-level Excellence awards on the Awards step. See Awards.
The notebook requirement exists only on this page. The eligibility printouts, the Finalize page, and the award slides do not read it.
Viewing a Team's Requirements
- Click the details button at the end of the team's row, or click its Notebook button. Clicking elsewhere on the row changes the highlight instead, as described under Highlighting Teams.
- The dialog header shows the team number and name on teal if the team is eligible, green if it is eligible and marked as a candidate, or red if it is not eligible.
- Under Requirements, each rule shows a check or a cross, the rule name, the team's value, and the rule itself. Rank rules read, for example, #3 of cutoff #6 with the hint Top 50% of the qualification rankings. Score rules read 42 pts (2 attempts) or No score.
- Close the dialog to return to the table.

Recording Notebook Status
- Open the team's details.
- In the Notebook row, choose Not set, Not submitted, Developing, Fully developed, or Marked as Design/Innovate/Excellence Candidate.
- The change saves at once. Not submitted and Developing make the team not eligible on this page and turn its Notebook button red. Not set, Fully developed, and the candidate status leave the other requirements to decide.
The candidate status is for teams the judges have shortlisted for the Design, Innovate, or Excellence award. It appears as Candidate in the table, and if the team also meets the performance requirements, its row turns green rather than teal. It does not change how eligibility is calculated.
The status is stored in the event file and is still there when the event is reopened.
Highlighting Teams
Highlights are a shared scratchpad for deliberation. They have no fixed meaning in Competition Control, so agree on one with your judges (for example green for interviewed, amber for still under discussion, red for ruled out). Use the Candidate notebook status, rather than a highlight, to mark teams shortlisted for the Design, Innovate, or Excellence award.
- Click a team's row. Each click moves the highlight from No mark to Green mark, Amber mark, Red mark, and back to No mark.
- To jump straight to a color, open the team's details and click one of the four circles under Highlight.
- The whole row takes the color, and every judging device shows it within a moment.
From the keyboard, use the arrow keys, Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down to move through the table, then press Enter or Space to act on the focused row. Moving the focus never changes a highlight, so you can scroll a re-sorted table without marking anything.
Highlights are stored in the event file alongside the notebook status and do not appear on any printout or display screen.
How This Connects to Other Features
- Rankings and scoring. Qualification ranks come from the alliance match rankings, and solo ranks and scores come from the solo rankings. Saving, changing, or unfinalizing a score updates this page immediately. See Rankings, Field Control and Scoring, and Solo Matches.
- Check in. Marking a team present adds it to the page and, once it has a scored match, to the cutoff count. Marking a team Not Present removes it and can lower the cutoffs for everyone else. See Team Check In and Inspection.
- Awards setup. The awards you list decide whether the page splits by grade. See Awards.
- Teams. Grade, name, organization, and location come from the team record. A team with no grade is pooled separately when the page is split. See Teams.
- Finalize. Recording the Excellence or All-Around Champion winner is still done on the Finalize page. This page does not pick a winner or block one. See Finalize and Awards.
- Printouts. Excellence Eligibility by Grade and Excellence Eligibility Combined on the Overview page print the same performance requirements without the notebook status or highlights. See Reports and Printouts.
Tips
- Authorize the judging room tablets as Judge Advisor so every judge sees the same live board. Any of those devices can set highlights and notebook status, so agree on who makes the marks.
- Hide the columns the judges do not need with Columns before deliberation starts. The choice sticks on that device.
- Set notebook status as notebooks are reviewed in the morning. By the time qualification matches finish, the page shows the performance results against decisions the judges have already made.
- Cutoffs move as more teams get a scored match. Wait until the last qualification match is scored before treating the list as final.
Troubleshooting
- If the Cutoffs card shows No teams have scored matches yet. and every count is zero, either no qualification match has been scored yet or the device has the Judge role, which cannot load the eligibility results. Score a match, or change the device's role to Judge Advisor on the Devices page.
- If a team you expect is missing, it is not checked in or is not in any alliance match. The page lists only teams that meet the participation requirement.
- If a team shows N/A for Qual Rank or Solo Rank, it has no scored qualification match or no solo attempt yet. Both are required.
- If a team's performance qualifies but it shows as not eligible, check its Notebook status. Not submitted and Developing rule a team out on this page.
- If the page is not split by grade when you expect it to be, make sure the Awards step lists an Excellence (or All-Around Champion) award for each grade. Inspire events never split.
- If a highlight or notebook change does not appear on another device, that device may have lost its connection. Reload the page on it. See Troubleshooting.
